All the facts.

Egypt is and always has been a very ethnically and racially diverse country. There are ‘white’ Egyptians, there are ‘black’ Egyptians, and there are (the majority) Egyptians who are neither white nor black, but somewhere in between.

People seem to forget that while Egypt is in Africa, it is in the northeastern most part of Africa, and guess what it’s right next to?

Guess which section of the world has a native population that isn’t white, but sure as hell isn’t black?

But wait! There’s more! Guess which part of the world Egypt is ALSO close to!

And guess who conquered Egypt? The Greeks, and later the Romans. And guess who exchanged goods and services (and people) with Egypt literally for centuries? Ding ding ding, the Greeks and Romans. Guess which country was very very racially mixed because of their location?  Right again: Egypt.

Cleopatra was Greek, not Egyptian. As in, nearly pure Macedonian Greek. And need I remind you were Macedonia is (hint- it’s about where modern day Bulgaria is. And guess what Bulgarians look like? They’re Slavs. Aka, the ‘darker white’-they faced (and still today face) racism in many parts of Europe). But still. ”White.” She was the first and only Ptolemy to speak and write Egyptian. Facts: you need them.

tl;dr: Egypt was not a racially homogeneous place. It is not full of ‘black’ people simply because it is on the African continent, but nor is it full of ‘white’ people. Some WERE black, and some WERE white. As is normal for the region, most were some shade in between, and 90-something percent of Egyptians today are considered ethnic Egyptians-that is, neither Caucasian or Black. Cleopatra was Greek, not Egyptian, the last in the Ptolemy line from when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, and so would not have been even remotely the same skin color as the majority of the people she ruled, and would have been white, or at the very least white-passing. She was Greek after all, and as far as I am aware, Greeks consider themselves to be white. Europe is on a sliding scale of whiteness (unlike the US), but they’re still white.
